AE2 Web Integration

Export item icons

Bring the item artwork from your Minecraft client and resource packs into the web terminal.

1. Prepare your Minecraft client

Icons are optional. The server and terminal work with item names before you install a pack. If you have not installed the main server mod yet, start with the server setup guide.

  1. Download ae2webintegration-icon-generator-*.jar from the release downloads. Choose the generator for the same Minecraft version and mod loader as your server, from the release matching your server mod.
  2. Close Minecraft and put the generator JAR in that client's mods/ folder.
  3. Use the same modpack as the server, including its item and fluid mods.
  4. Start the client and enable the resource packs whose artwork you want in the terminal.
  5. Enter a single-player world or join a server, and wait for resource loading to finish.

The generator runs on your client and captures the appearance of its loaded resource packs. The resulting pack is the file you will copy to the Minecraft server.

2. Run the export

Run this client command in Minecraft chat:

/ae2webicons export

A progress window opens. It first discovers resources, then renders the icons and saves the pack. The total is not known during discovery. Wait for Icon export complete before using the output file, then select Done.

Use Cancel export or press Escape to cancel, then wait for the progress window to finish. Leaving the world or reloading resource packs also cancels an active export.

The client also provides these commands for status and cancellation:

/ae2webicons status
/ae2webicons cancel

Progress and the final result also appear in chat. The export window keeps other game screens closed while the job is active, and it does not pause the world.

3. Find the icon pack

Open the ae2webicons/ folder inside the game directory of the client instance you used. The completion message gives the output path. A completed file has a name like:

AE2WebIntegration-icons-<minecraft-version>-<pack-id>.ae2wi-icons

Use the completed .ae2wi-icons file as it is. Keep its extension; you can keep the generated filename too. You do not need to unpack it or rename it to a fixed name.

4. Install it on the server

  1. Stop the Minecraft server.
  2. Copy the completed pack into config/ae2webintegration/ in the server directory.
  3. Keep exactly one .ae2wi-icons file in that folder. Move any previous packs out.
  4. Start the server again.

The pack belongs directly beside config.toml. If several packs are present, the server logs their filenames and disables icons until you leave one pack and restart.

To replace or remove a pack later, stop the server first, change the file, then start the server again. A configuration reload does not replace the loaded icon pack.

5. Enable icons in the terminal

  1. Open or refresh your server's web panel.
  2. Open Web settings.
  3. Under Terminal display, choose Icons and names or Icons only.

This choice applies in your browser. You can switch back to Names only in the same setting.

If icons do not appear

The export command is unknown

Check that the icon-generator JAR is in the active client's mods/ folder and matches its Minecraft version and loader. Restart the client after installing it, then enter a world before running the command.

The export was canceled or failed

Read the final status and the client log. Stay in the same world and keep the selected resources loaded throughout the next export. If the failure concerns graphics readback, the generator provides a mode without pixel buffer objects:

/ae2webicons export nopbo

The server does not provide an icon pack

Check the server log for Multiple icon packs found or Cannot load icon pack. Confirm that one completed file is directly in config/ae2webintegration/, still ends in .ae2wi-icons, and was installed while the server was stopped. Restart the server after correcting it.

Packs must match the server's Minecraft version, loader and supported pack compatibility. If the log reports an unsupported format or a compatibility mismatch, generate a new pack with the matching release's generator.

Only some icons are missing or look different

Check that the exporting client has the server's modpack and the intended resource packs. The completion status reports discovery and rendering failures, and the client log gives details. Correct the client setup, export again and replace the server pack while stopped.
